Deal Overview

UAB Health System has acquired Southview Medical Group in an add-on physician practice transaction aimed at expanding care in the Birmingham, Alabama region. The acquisition was completed on Jan. 1, 2026, with UAB taking ownership of Southview’s provider network and facilities, including sites at UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham and UAB Medicine St. Vincent’s One Nineteen. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Southview Medical Group is a multi-specialty practice serving central Alabama with a focus on prevention, diagnosis, and treatment across areas including internal medicine, cardiology, infectious disease, endocrinology, and gastroenterology. With more than 30 providers, the group supports over 51,000 unique patients annually and generates more than 130,000 patient visits, reflecting a sizable footprint in local outpatient care. For UAB, the deal strengthens primary care access and care coordination while integrating a long-established Birmingham practice into an academic health system’s broader service capabilities.

As an add-on acquisition, the transaction is designed to deepen UAB Medicine’s ability to deliver a more seamless patient experience across the continuum of care, from preventive services to advanced treatment. The integration also expands UAB’s physician practice presence at key St. Vincent’s-affiliated locations in Birmingham.
