Deal Overview

UAB Health System acquired Southview Medical Group, a multi-specialty physician practice in central Alabama, in a closed add-on transaction. The deal was finalized on January 1, with UAB Medicine taking ownership of Southview’s network of providers and facilities. Financial terms were not disclosed. Southview’s practice includes more than 30 providers across internal medicine, cardiology, infectious disease, endocrinology and gastroenterology, serving over 51,000 unique patients annually.

The acquisition expands UAB Medicine’s footprint in Birmingham and surrounding communities and reinforces its strategy of integrating community-based primary and specialty care with an academic health system. Southview’s locations include UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham and UAB Medicine St. Vincent’s One Nineteen, supporting UAB’s stated focus on improving care coordination and enabling patients to move seamlessly from prevention to advanced treatment.

As an add-on to UAB’s existing operations, the transaction is positioned to increase access to primary and specialty services while addressing growing demand for coordinated outpatient care. The announcement follows UAB’s earlier acquisition of Ascension St. Vincent’s Birmingham medical network, underscoring a continued consolidation approach in Alabama’s healthcare delivery market.
