Microsoft has announced the acquisition of Osmos, an agentic AI data engineering platform, as part of its efforts to expand Microsoft Fabric. The deal is structured as a strategic acquisition, with financial terms undisclosed. Microsoft said the technology is designed to automate complex and time-consuming data workflows, helping organizations transform raw data into analytics and AI-ready assets within OneLake, the unified data lake at the center of Fabric.
Osmos targets a core enterprise software challenge: data is widely distributed, but preparing it for analysis and downstream AI use often remains manual, slow, and costly. By bringing agentic AI capabilities into Microsoft Fabric, Microsoft aims to further its “autonomous” data engineering roadmap and strengthen Fabric’s position as an end-to-end platform for connecting, preparing, analyzing, and sharing data across organizations. The move also aligns with broader market demand for AI-ready data pipelines that reduce operational overhead while improving speed and consistency.
Microsoft indicated that the Osmos team will join Microsoft’s Fabric engineering organization. The company did not disclose a closing date or additional deal terms in the announcement, but it framed the acquisition as a step toward integrating agentic AI into Fabric to support more autonomous data experiences for customers.
