Deal Overview

Hitachi Rail has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Clever Devices, a U.S.-based provider of Intelligent Transportation Systems for transit agencies worldwide. Clever Devices is headquartered in Woodbury, New York, and has offices in the United States, Europe, and South America.

The company is described as having projected 2026 revenues of over $220 million and more than 600 employees. Clever Devices serves mass transit customers including 8 of the 10 largest North American transit agencies and deploys ITS solutions across public mobility, including buses and railway systems.

Hitachi Rail says the acquisition extends its footprint beyond rail into wider public mobility and will complement its HMAX Mobility suite, which connects fleet and infrastructure data to create an operational twin of railways.
