General Catalyst has completed the acquisition of Amphiform, a renewable energy business in Oxford, for $5.5M. Amphiform is a deep tech fuel cell startup developing atomically engineered nano-catalyst energy materials to address energy bottlenecks for data centers, space, and defense applications. Its hybrid, atomic-layer-built catalysts aim to improve power density and reduce cost by activating more of the catalyst volume at the fuel-cell interface, enabling efficient use of renewable liquid fuels such as methanol and ethanol. The $5.5M pre-seed platform acquisition is backed by General Catalyst acquisitions and co-led by Main Object, with Embassy Ventures and other angel investors participating.
